Up: The Art of Disney Exclusive Laser Cel Limited Edition Print

Here is an Up themed limited edition 3D Laser Cel print that was sold exclusively at Downtown Disney at the Art of Disney store back in the late Spring / early Summer of this year.

This Up print is one of six 3D Pixar themed prints that were released in this particular collection. The others include images from Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation, Monsters Inc., The Incredibles, Cars and Finding Nemo. I'm not sure how many pieces of these "limited" prints are out there, but few enough that I can see these going up in price very soon and becoming hard to find. When we were there at the Art of Animation store during our Disney World trip this past May, my wife Brita noticed how much I loved these prints there and secretly bought them all. Since then, she's been giving me them here and there for different holiday and occasions. On Thursday, she gave me this one as one of my Thanksgiving presents. So awesome!

At the Art of Animation store, they retailed for $39.99 and are 8" X 10" in size.

It's hard to tell on here from the picture, but Ellie is "raised" (with the background behind them about 1 cm) for the really cool 3D effect.

Each print in this series is of the highest quality with vibrant colors - and this one is no exception. There is more info on the quality and materials used printed on the certificate of authenticity, seen below.

This collection of prints is just so awesome in person. The pictures here especially don't do this one justice. I just love the clear, glossy "window" looking into such a colorful, iconic, 3D Pixar image. It really pops! They will look great on my "man cave" wall (or bookshelf) someday.

Some of these have shown up on eBay, so you can check out the link below if you're interested in buying. However, they sell for about double (or more than double) the store's price.

Wall-E: Search 'N' Protect Eve

Back in 2008 Thinkway Toys released a slew of Wall-E products, including a series of detailed action figures. Now, why I didn't get these toys is beyond me, but luckily we now have a second chance for at least a couple of them!

Just last month, Thinkway toys re-released two of the hardest to find figures from their original 2008 action figure line; this "Search 'N' Protect Eve" and "Cube 'N' Stack Wall-E"  . Both are part of the new Disney/Pixar Toys R Us exclusive collection. I'm especially happy this Eve has been re-released  since the original, seen HERE, sells for typically between $80 and $150!

As seen on the back of the package, other new action figures that have been released as well include: the mentioned Cube 'N' Stack Wall-E, Mr. Incredible, Syndrome, Bruce and Nemo.

Note: Sorry for the pictures here (in regards to my reflection in all of them). This one was so tough to photograph without any reflections because of her shiny face.

I'm  extremely impressed with this figure. Her details and features are top of the line! Below we have Eve out of the package with her six included accessories: a clear stand, a break away rock formation, a light bulb, the boot with the plant and her "snap-on canon blaster" arm. As far as articulation, her head can move side to side and her arms can move up and down (you can also push the arms into her sides as well, just like in the film). She measures 4" tall (5" with the stand) and 1 1/2" wide.

FEATURES / HOW IT WORKS-

Press the button on her back; the doors swing open to reveal her storage compartment! Place boot inside to take it back to the Axiom for analysis.

The light bulb can be attached to her hand to recreate the movie's memorable scene.

Press down Eve's head to reveal six different facial expressions! I think this is an awesome feature and is one of my favorite things about the figure. Because of the reflections I was getting while photographing her face, I just included a close up of the back of the box featuring the expressions.

Last but not least, you can detach Eve's right arm and replace it with her "canon blaster" arm. Press the button on the boulder to make a piece of it "explode" off, as if Eve was firing a shot at it.

Again, this is a fantastic figure that I'm so happy to now have as part of my collection. If I was to say anything negative about it though, I'd say that the price is way over the top for just an action figure. Back in 2008, this same figure retailed for $9.99 (which I feel is pretty spot on) but he now sells for $19.99 - double the price. Nonetheless, I'm still a fan of this figure and the entire new Toys R Us Disney/Pixar line.

You can currently find this very easily at your local Toys R Us store...or, if your prefer, you can snag it online on Amazon or eBay using the link below:

Cars: Luigi, Guidor & Tractor Movie Moments 3-Pack

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope you're all having a fun, safe and delicious holiday.

Today's post we have the 2006 (original Cars "Desert Series") Mattel 1:55 scale Movie Moments 3-Pack featuring Luigi, Guido and Tractor. I've been looking to add this to my collection for years (since I missed it originally, but it has been hard to track down for a good price. I have to give a huge thanks to my wife Brita who hooked me up with it this morning as one of my Thanksgiving presents. I'm so incredibly thankful for her in my life!

In the film (screen shot above), these characters can be seen together when the tractors stampede into Radiator Springs - with some making their way into Guido and Luigi's tire shop.

This 3-pack has been released numerous times over the years; in the original "Desert Series" (seen here), the "Supercharged Series" and the "World of Cars Series."

I'm happy to now have this great set as part of my collection...it felt especially incomplete without it!  If you're looking to pick this one up as well, your best bet is to track it down on Amazon or eBay using the link below:

Cars 2: Acer with torch

This version of Acer, "Acer with Torch", was an exclusive to Kmart. He was released there at the eighth Cars collector's event on June 16th, 2012 (along with Celine Dephare) and, as usual, is a 1:55 scale diecast from Mattel.

As seen in the screen shot above, Acer can be seen this way (with his torch and goggles) during the film's street fight scene with Finn McMissile in Tokyo.

If you missed picking this one up at Kmart a few years back, no worries. He's easy to find on Amazon or eBay using the link below:

Monsters University: "Scaring All-Stars" Coloring Book With Collectible Scare Cards

Back last year when Monster University was in theaters, the director of the film, Dan Scanlon, stated (or more so hinted) through a tweet that scare cards would soon available to own. Almost a year and a half has passed now and there is still no sign of official scare cards being released to the general public.

However, some scare cards have been officially released as limited releases/exclusives, such as the ones available only at the Disney Parks during their "Monstrous Summer 24 Hour Event" last May, the ones available only at the Disney Store last fall (see my post about those HERE) and the ones that were given only to movie theater projectionists with special instructions for the projectionists on them (see my post about those HERE and read all you need to know about the all the different scare cards that have been released ).

Anyway - Back in July of this year, Random House publishing (Golden Books) released this "Monsters" coloring book called "Scaring All-Stars", which includes many characters and key scenes from both films for young kids to color. In addition, and what makes this book extra awesome, is that it includes 16 "tear out" scare cards on two perforated cardstock sheets! So, in a way, I guess you could say this is the first time scare cards that have been officially available to the general public - even if they're not in collectible packs or the same quality make as the previous exclusives were (but more on that below).

First of all, here's a peek at some of the coloring pages included in this book (I know, I know, just get to the scare cards right?):

Ok now onto what you're here for - the scare cards! Like mentioned, the cards come on sheets so you have to do the tearing to get them out. As seen below, they are perforated (meaning each card is connected by a row of small holes in the paper so that they may be torn apart more easily) but are still very delicate. It was very tedious getting them separated without ripping any of the cards themselves...but I was able to do it just fine.

And yes, they do have their full stats on the back of each card!

The 16 cards that come with this book are:

  •  Darryl Payne
  • Frank McCay
  • Randall Boggs
  • Rufus Remerez
  • Ted Pauley
  • Carla Benitez
  • Carl Johnsom
  • Pete Ward
  • James P. Sullivan
  • Jerry Jablonski
  • George Sanderson
  • Earl Thompson (Rookie Card)
  • Bob Peterson
  • Clive Carver
  • Betty Stevenson
  • Carol Dallmar

Here they are all torn out from the book - looking great!

So how do these hold up compared to the official Disney Parks/Store exclusive versions? Well, they are of course, not the same high quality; but are still well made! These ones are much more "card-stocky" and have that wide white boarder around the image which makes them a tad bigger than the "official" versions. The officials ones feel more like a baseball card (or any other type of collectible trading card) when you handle them, have smaller boarders around the images and have more shine to them. The images of the characters, designs and stats though remain exactly the same between these and the official versions.

Ultimately, these make for a great substitution for the official Disney Parks cards for those (like me) who weren't  lucky enough to get them at the time of their limited release. While there are only 16 character cards here with this book (compared to the 34 that were released within the "official" cards), it's still a satisfying amount that I feel happy to have.

Additionally, there is actually one character/card included here in this book that has NOT been released any other way - Carol Dallmar. So, if you're one of the lucky ones who have all the "official" ones, you might still have to track down this book to get the Carol card (if you're a completist like me).

I'm still hoping that we'll get more released to the public someday, either in this way or official packs, but for now these will absolutely do. If you'd like to purchase this book, your best bet is to just snag it on Amazon for only $3.59. Don't be fooled by those eBay sellers trying to sell these same exact scare cards for $50!

Last but not least, a BIG thanks to blog reader and fellow Pixar fan Randy Allen who surprised me with this in the mail! That was super thoughtful and I'm grateful; I could not believe that I had no idea about this great book.

Cars 2: Hydrofoil Finn McMissile

From Mattel, here we have Hydrofoil Finn McMissile! This is a 1:55 scale diecast and was #6 of the original Cars 2 2011 "Deluxe" size assortment.

As seen in the screen shot above, Finn can be seen using his "hydrofoils" near the beginning of the film after plummeting off the oil rig and into the ocean during his exciting escape from the lemons.

If you missed picking up this deluxe character back when he was first released, be sure to track him down on either eBay or Amazon for the best prices.

Cars 2: Holley Shiftwell with Wings

This version of Agent Shiftwell was a 2011 Cars 2 release from Mattel...Holley Shiftwell with Wings! She is a 1:55 scale diecast and was #2 in the original "Deluxe" size assortment.

As seen in the screen shot above, Holley uses here retractable wings to escape from the "Big Bentley" clock tower and help save the day during the film's exciting climax.

Besides this single release, she was also available in a 3-pack early on in the Cars 2 series as well. Since then though, she hasn't had any re-releases and there doesn't seem to be any plans for one any time soon. If you missed picking this one up when she was available in stores, be sure to head to Amazon or eBay (using the link below) for the best deals:

Cars: Hot Topic Radiator Spings Tee

Hot Topic has recently released this new Pixar Cars "Radiator Springs" themed graphic tee. As soon as I saw this while browsing their website recently, I knew I had to get it (given my fandom for the Cars franchise).

While I've never been one to shop at Hot Topic, I've really enjoyed the Pixar themed shirts that they've released over the last year or so. They fit really well, have cool simplistic designs and are a  soft, quality material - this one is no exception. I especially love the retro, almost 50's-esque feel of the Radiator Springs logo on this tee. It really captures the feel of the film!

This is currently available in stores or on HotTopic.com (purchase HERE, but hurry since these tees don't usually stay in stock for long). Note: the tee is currently on sale for $16.40 online, so now would be a great chance to snag it if you were interested.

Additionally, be sure to check out the posts I did on my other Pixar Hot Topics tees; ones based on Finding Nemo, Toy Story and Wall-E. Also, check back tomorrow for yet another one!

If you're any kind of Disney/Pixar fan or fan of Cars in general, I would definitely recommend picking up this very cool and unique t-shirt. I've never seen one like it, and there may not be one like it out again, so I'm happy I ended up picking it up. You won't be disappointed!

Cars 2: Bindo

Here's Bindo, yet another character from Cars 2 who was briefly seen in the background during the Tokyo airport sequence in the film (left side of screen shot above). This 1:55 scale diecast from Mattel was released in 2012 as part of the original Cars 2 series (#37).

Trivia: Bindo is possibly named after Bindo Maserati (one of the Maserati brothers) similarly to Carlo Maserati.

If you're still looking to add Bindo to your Cars collection, you can pick him up on Amazon or eBay using the link below:
