Here we have two amazing sets of postcards...every Pixar fan needs these! Like The Art of Toy Story postcard set (seen HERE), these each come with 100 collectible, high quality postcards showing off some of the beautiful concept art from each of Pixar's films.
Volume 1 (left) includes art from every feature length and short film from Toy Story through Cars.
Volume 2 (right) includes art from every feature length and short from Ratatouille through Brave.
Each set of postcards comes in a fantastically designed, classy and sturdy box—I really can't say enough good things about these sets! They're inexpensive (about $17 on Amazon) and easy to track down so you better grab them if haven't already.
Of course, I didn't get these to actually send as postcards or give away as "thank you notes"...these are definitely staying as collectibles! One fun way that I personally use these (and what I got them for) is to display them in mini frames, switching them out every now and then. They look great on a desk, bookshelf, etc...
Thanks for checking out today's post and be sure to come back each day for more!
Here we have my collection of Mattel Toy Story 2 action figures from 1999! These are my childhood toys from when I was 9 years old and they're still in prime condition and complete with all accessories. This is a really fantastic set of figures and I have a lot of great memories playing with them. They just don't make action figures like this anymore it seems! I love all the unique accessories and that most of the figures have some kind of sound and/or action feature (and believe it or not, all the sounds still work all these years later and I've never even replaced the batteries). Anyway, let's take a look at each one a little closer (from left to right)!
Ion Blaster Zurg: This Zurg includes a launching ion blaster and a tinted window on the back of his head to let sunlight in— of course to give him the appearance of glowing eyes.
Zip-line Rescue Buzz Lightyear: This Buzz includes the Zip-Line monkey (seen in Al's Toy Barn in the film), a bunch of string to make a zip-line across your room or whatever (the monkey and Buzz do actually ride the string just like in the movie), and light-up wing tips.
Wreck-a-Saurus Rex: This Rex has roaring sounds and a whiplash tail to knock down the stack of alphabet blocks he comes with.
Thunder Punch Buzz Lightyear: I believe this is supposed to be utility belt Buzz (even though the belt is green here). Press the button on his back for punching action and punching sound effects.
Shifty Shootin' Prospector: This Stinky Pete comes with a firing mining pick canon complete with a blasting sound effect. His hat is also removable.I was amazed when I looked up this figure on eBay recently to find out how RARE her is. I saw no listing of him in the package and all of the loose/complete listings were over $100! I guess Stinky Pete is very sought after since there has not been very many toys made from his character. I wonder why there has never been a full sized one to go along with the rest of the roundup gang!?
Ropin' Rescue Woody: Woody here has lassoing action and includes two critters (the bear and bobcat). You pull the lasso out from Woody's wrist, put the lasso around a critter and press the button on his back to reel it in! Press the button on the bear's tail for bear growling sounds. Woody has a removable hat as well.
Buckin' Bronco Bulleye: Press the button for Bullseye to kick his back legs, push tail to launch the saddle pack and includes horse sounds. Woody and Jessie can ride him!
Round-Up Jessie: Jessie has "lasso twirling action", a removable hat and includes three critters from Woody's Round Up—the skunk, deer and rabbit.
UPDATE 11/24/2020—Took an updated photo of these guys for Toy Story 2's 21st anniversary today and figured I'd include it here in my original post as well!
Here is an example at what the packaging looked like for this collection of figures (image from eBay):
Yes, there are a couple other ["expanded universe"] figures from this line but I only got the ones that were more cannon with the movie as always (if you know me)...to me this collection is complete! Anyone else have or remember this collection?
Oh one last note...Admittedly I do have one item from a very similar line from Mattel (called "Rocket Force") that is not seen anywhere in the films and is completely made up. I don't know where I got it (I think it was a gift from a friend back in the day) but here is my Buzz Lightyear and "Rocket Hopper":
Basically you push down or step on the green (I don't even know what to call it haha) thing and the air goes through the tube to make the machine "hop" over "craters".
UPDATE 9/15/21- Here's my detailed video review after all these years!
Well, a new semester is starting today...so my wife got me a "back to school present" for the first day of classes! Here we have the 2013 D23 expo exclusive Toy Story Toons: Small Fry Buzz lightyear collectible figure (phew..that was a mouthful).
The most outer box (seen above and below) is great and really captures the toon. Love the detail of the grease stain seeping through the box as if there's fried chicken in there.
Once the outer box is opened you'll find another box! This one is more of a "fun meal" box replica straight out of the film. The design of the logo is hilarious and I love how the handle resembles a castle...so many details! It even has a maze and a word search on the sides just like it would at a typical fast food restaurant.
Once you open that box, you finaly get to your Buzz figure! He comes in this plastic case for display and is not really meant to come out...but it's personal preference. I'm gonna be keeping him in there so I don't wreck anything. There's no convenient way to get him out unless you don't care about ruining the case.
It's a fun little figure, perfectly painted and with every detail from the film! It's like he came right out of the TV screen.
This is a must have for any avid Pixar fan or collector so get it on Ebay while you have the chance! Right now they're not too expensive at all.
A big thanks to fellow Pixar fan Kevin and The Pixar Post for helping me get this straight from the Expo and to my wife Brita for hookin' me up!
UPDATE 9/17/13:
My good friends over at The Pixar Post posed a good question to me after reading this review...they wondered "does he have wheels on the feet?" just like in the film? After some searching online (since I have not taken him out to see for myself), I found this image over at Figures.com that confirms that he DOES in fact have wheels! Great touch Mattel.
Post six out of six of the Cars Radiator Springs Play sets! Like yesterday's post (Mater's Junkyard-be sure to read about it!), this play set is not part of the Mattel line and is a Disney Parks exclusive. This one also comes with a mini remote controlled car (this time Lightning Mcqueen, which I haven't taken out since it was only the Courthouse I was interested in) and a foam play mat.
It's only a tad too small compared to the 1:55 scale Mattel diecasts, but again, it's just about spot on and works great with the other play sets. It's the most move accurate sized Courthouse out there (in fact, it may be the only one out there) so far-and works almost perfect with the 2006 Stanley statue (from the movie moments 2-pack with Red)!
This play set also has a ramp that loops around the building-meant for the mini RC car (seen on the back of the package below).
And as mentioned in the previous posts, here are more pictures of the whole town together combined with the other Disney Parks/Mattel play sets!
...And at night time! Be sure to check out the video to see all the light up features!
Here is post five out of six of the Cars Radiator Spring play sets and the first not from Mattel...Mater's Junkyard play set from Disney Parks! It's currently at Cars Land and can be found at Downtown Disney and other parks and retails for about $35. It's not on Disneystore.com anymore but can still be easily found on eBay for good prices if you're interested. I could see this becoming rare someday so get it while you still can!
Mattel never released a Mater's Junkyard set to go along with their town, but this is a near perfect fit with it. It's only a tad smaller than it should be but I think it's actually pretty perfect and there isn't much need for it to be any bigger. It comes with a little mini remote controlled Mater (see picture above) but I didn't get this for him and have not even used that at all or put batteries in it. I only got this for the actual play set to go with my other Mattel play sets/diecasts- but I'm sure the remote control car and feature is fun as well. Also included with this set is a foam junkyard play mat.
This play set is great with all sorts of little accessories to place around the junkyard like tires and break-apart barrels.
As you can see it's a great way to display Mater and Mcqueen with boot...and yes Mater can fit through under the sign!
The foam mat that this comes with makes a fantastic addition to the whole town when combined with the Mattel playsets and really adds to the diorama! It just so happens that the mats that come with these Disney Parks playsets are the SAME width of the Mattel ones. So it worked out really good (I don't think it was planned that way) and it's a perfect addition to the town (see picture below to see the whole town together and what I mean about the mats being the perfect size).
Check back tomorrow for the final play set from my Radiator Springs collection...The Courthouse! There will also be more pictures of the town together and a video of the light up features. Stay tuned!
Here is the "Disney Heroes" (Series Number Three— Pixar Animation Studios) figurine set of six PVC figures, a Disney Theme Parks exclusive! I picked this up at Walt Disney World in the fall of 2011. It was available for some time, however, it has long since been sold out and has become pretty rare from what I understand.
This figure gift pack includes: Mr. Incredible, Sulley, Randall, Syndrome, Buzz Lightyear and Woody. So sure, technically two of them are villains; but what's a hero without its villain? ;) They're about 2-3 inches tall and have a fantastic chunky "Buddy Pack" style to them, which I was really drawn to. The design of each character in this set was done by the well known Disney Design artist, Ron Cohee.
This set isn't on eBay too often but keep checking periodically to see
if you can snag this for a decent price. Who knew this set would be
sought after? Let me know your thoughts below! Highly recommended if you
can get your hands on it.
UPDATE 5/24/2020—Since the photos above have become so old and outdated (in terms of what I can do nowadays), I thought it would be great to finally add a nice quality look at these figure here now as well!
