Hey everyone and welcome to another one of my Mattel Cars 3 1:55 scale diecast reviews! Tonight I'm taking a quick look at this Minny and Van 2-Pack, released on May 1st, 2017 (almost a year ago to the day). Both of these characters were welcomed re-releases for me, since I never ended up finding the original release of Minny (who's still pretty rare at this point) or Van (I do have the lenticular eyes version of him though).
Interestingly enough, neither Minny nor Van ever makes an appearance in Cars 3! Bummer right? The two of them obviously had a small, but memorable, role in the original Cars (as shown in the screen shot above) and then had a brief cameo at the end of Cars 2. I wonder if they possibly had a cameo in Cars 3 that was cut from the film late into production? What do you think? I would have liked to at least see them make an appearance after the credits like they did in Cars 1 (which reminds me— I also have the 2015 "Lost in the Desert" 2-Pack featuring these two based on that little end credits moment from the original film).
Both of these are direct repacks of their original releases, but they look great! Van first hit shelves around 2007/2008 as part of Mattel's World of Cars series. Minny (originally packed as "Mini", wonder why the spelling change?) was first available in 2009 as part of the Race O Rama collection (which was a continuation of the "World of Cars" series). I didn't start Cars collecting until 2011, hence why I missed both of these characters initially.
Take a closer look below!

Van
I remember being so excited when this 2-pack hit shelves last May (since I had been wanting to get these characters together for years). Man, did Mattel overdo it with this one though! Now I'm so sick of seeing it. To this day, there are still countless packs of these hanging on store pegs (be it Walmart, Kmart, Target, Toys R Us...wherever). I have no idea what happened. All I know is way too many were produced and shipped out.
Anyway, if you somehow missed this set and are wanting to add this to your collection at this point, just pop into any store and I guarantee you'll find it. If you'd rather just pick it up online, check out current eBay listings HERE or the direct Amazon link below.
Happy hunting! Let me know your thoughts down in the comments.
