The Good Dinosaur: Wooden Postcard

pixar studio store

Here we have a very cool item...directly from the Pixar Studios Store in Emeryville, CA! Since the Studio Store is not open to the public (it's only accessible to Pixar employees unless you get invited in), anything I'm lucky enough to receive from there becomes an instant favorite of mine.

This The Good Dinosaur postcard is extremely unique. I've never seen anything like it! It's actually made of quality wood, cut very thin, which I had never heard of before. The brilliant character sketch (possibly concept art) featured on the card is a dinosaur named Forrest Woodbush. Very little is known about him, but from what I do know, he's also known as "the pet collector of the prairie" and is very wise in his years. I look forward to seeing him in the film! He could end up being pretty funny, I believe.

This is a standard size 5x7 postcard with the film's logo on the back, as well as "Pixar Animation Studios · Emeryville, California."

A huge thanks to my great friend Jeff (from This Day in Pixar), who was generous to pick this up for me during his most recent visit to Pixar! This was a great surprise- I absolutely love it. Very much appreciated!

The Good Dinosaur: Disney Store Mug

the good dinosaur mug disney store

This amazing The Good Dinosaur oversize cup was just released yesterday in stores (and online) at the Disney Store. I bought this thing right up, because seriously, how cool is this design? This high quality ceramic mug is molded after Arlo's (the main dinosaur) foot and features adorable minimalistic Spot (his caveboy friend) screen art on the side. It holds 16 oz., is very sturdy and is microwave and dishwasher safe.

After all the bright rainbow colors of Inside Out this year, I'm really loving the shift over to more earth tones for The Good Dinosaur merchandise. It's a nice contrast! This new line of products has such a unique feel and color scheme, different than any other Pixar film.

This mug was a real stand out for me. It's by far one of my top items released yesterday! I knew I had to get it as soon as I saw it as it's totally the style I'm drawn to. If you're as excited for the film as I am and would like to add this to your collection, be sure to visit your local Disney Store to check for availability; or visit the DisneyStore.com HERE to purchase! Retail is $14.95.

Look for Diney·Pixar's brand new original film The Good Dinosaur in theaters on November 25th!

Events: The Good Dinosaur Disney Store Merch Release

 disney store good dinosaur

The theatrical release of Disney·Pixar's The Good Dinosaur is less than two months away...that being said, you know what that means! Time for merchandise. Just when I'm almost caught up with posting all of the Inside Out merch I purchased back in May, another slew of goodies hits. But hey, I'm not complaining. I love it! It's still crazy to me that we're getting two Pixar movies in a year; I'm so thrilled that's finally happening.

The Disney Store released their first run of Good Dino products today (online and in stores), while other items (such as the Tomy line of toys), will be released early next month. I was so happy when my wife Brita had a day off from work today so that we could head to our closest Disney Store together (about an hour away, so we made an event of it) to get our hands on all the fantastic new stuff! Christmas is around the corner after all.

The store didn't have every item that was released on the Disney Store website, however, they did say the rest of it could possibly be arriving later this week. Some of the toys I was most looking forward to weren't there, but there was still plenty of awesome stuff to check out. See for yourself in the pics below!

My favorite items there were all the plush, the art kit, the t-shirts, the Arlo foot mug and the bouncy ball. Look for my detailed posts of each of these items right here soon! The rest of the stuff is great, but it's mostly clothing items and accessories for very small kids. But believe me, if that hat, jacket, backpack, or even those PJs were in adult sizes, you know I'd go for them.

I'll update this post when I find more of the stuff I was looking for. Until then, be sure to check out your local Disney Store to see this all in person! It's turning out to be a great assortment of merch. I couldn't be happier with the items so far! Everything is just what I hoped for and pictured when I found out that Pixar was making a film about dinos. It's been a long time coming.

Side Note: I was also able to pre-order the Inside Out Blu-Ray while I was there at the store! I definitely recommend doing so (in stores or online) since you actually receive a free lithograph set when you do. I'll be posting more about that soon here as well, so look forward to that.

Inside Out: Joy's Greatest Joy/Simply Sadness (2 Books in 1!)

inside out joy book

From Random House Publishing, here we have the Inside Out inspired "Joy's Greatest Joy" & "Simply Sadness" 2 Books in 1! This is a cute little 22 page story written by author Felicity Glum and illustrated by Lori Tyminski. It follows loosely/expands upon one of the story elements from the film, but I won't spoil that here.

What's cool about this book is that it's, as mentioned, "2 Books in 1" (in a way). Open it from the front side, seen above, and read the story from Joy's perspective. Open it from the opposite side, seen below, and read the same story from Sadness's perspective. What happens in the middle is clever! I really enjoy how it's written and loved the adorable illustrations as well. It's very simple, as it's intended for young kids ages 3-7.

Additionally, there's over 30 Inside Out temporary tattoos included as well; so that's a fun little bonus.

If you're interested in adding this book to your Disney·Pixar book collection, be sure to snag it on Amazon using the link below (it's very inexpensive, as you can see). Highly recommended for fans of the film- young and old alike!

Inside Out: Promo Cards

wednesdays with walt

Here's another very cool limited item given to me by Paulina, an ever so awesome blog reader of mine, at the D23 Expo last month...a set of five Inside Out promotional cards! She received this during one of the"Wednesday with Walt" shows at Disneyland this past summer. Castmembers were handing them out for free!

Note: "Wednesdays with Walt" was a weekly event (for annual passholders only) that took place in the Opera House at Town Square, Main Street, U.S.A. every Wednesday for a limited time. There, guests were treated to some exclusive Walt Disney related guest speakers, presentations and films.

Each character card measures about 3" round, is made of a heavyweight cardstock and features some info about each of the emotions on the back. Check them all out below!

If you're interested in picking this up for yourself, be sure to use this link to current eBay listinings. It's a fun little set for collectors like myself. A big thanks again to Paulina for surprising me with yet another great item that I never knew existed!

Inside Out: 24-Hour Event Promotional Button

inside out promo pin

This year, Disneyland and Disney World [Magic Kingdom] held their annual 24 hour event from 6 a.m. Friday, May 22, to 6 a.m. Saturday, May 23. It was the kick-off to Disney 's "Coolest Summer Ever!" (more info on that HERE). During these 24 hours, there was extra entertainment, characters wearing their pajamas and (of course) some exclusive merch...including this Inside Out promo button/pin that was handed out to guests for free!

I wasn't actually able to attend the event, but thanks to Paulina (a fantastic blog reader of mine, check out her Twitter account at @heartdisney10), I now have this great piece in my collection! She was generous enough to actually surprise me with this (and a few other treats) when we attended the D23 Expo last month. Thank you so much again; much appreciated!

The button is about three inches in diameter and typically sells for just a few bucks online. If you're looking to add this pin to your collection, be sure to visit this direct link to current eBay listings.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Inside Out: Interchangeable iPhone Case (Disney Store Exclusive)

Here's another Inside Out merch post that's long over due...this awesome Disney Store Exclusive Interchangeable iPhone 5/5s Case! This was one of my birthday presents back in May and I've been using it with my cell phone ever since.

This set comes with a clear, plastic clip case and five interchangeable iPhone inserts featuring my favorite minimalist designs of my favorite emotions: Sadness, Joy, Disgust Fear and Anger! It also includes a screen guard and cloth (for wiping down those pesky finger prints). Retail was $19.95.

I've had a lot of fun switching different characters in and out of this case every so often; it makes it almost like having five cases in one (my favorites to utilize have been Fear and Anger). I don't really do this, but if you would really want to wear your emotions on your sleeve, you could base your daily decision (on which character to use) off of the emotion you're most strongly feeling that day! When I have Anger on there, I get people saying things like "Oh no, Dan's angry today" or "So Dan, are you in a bad mood today?" ;)

Full disclosure: The included plastic case honestly isn't the best quality (it's a very standard clip case); so if you're looking for a protective case for high impact situations, then this definitely isn't the case for you. The reasons behind me getting this were: because I love the film and love these designs (not so much for the practicality it). I'm not picky with phone cases in general though, so I've had a lot of fun with this one!

If you're interested in picking this up for your iPhone, head over to ToyWiz.com HERE, eBay HERE or Amazon using the direct link below. At this point it's sold out at the Disney Store, so those were the only place I could find it.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments!

Inside Out: TOMY Musical Bing Bong Figure

tomy toys bing bong

From TOMY Toys, here we have this fantastic Inside Out Musical Bing Bong figure! My post on this is long over due as I received this toy (and the entire action figure collection; more on the others soon) clear back in May...but better late than never!

This figure is up there with my top favorites of the Bing Bong merch. Besides the near perfect likeness to the character, it's made of a durable plastic (the body is a harder plastic, the head and trunk are a bit softer), has multiple points of articulation (arms, head and trunk) and even speaks and sings. It's about 7" tall, is ages 4+ and requires three 1.5V LR44 button cell batteries (included). Retail was $14.99. You can't really beat this toy if you love Bing Bong! It's solid.

tomy toys bing bong

The figures has several sound modes that can be switched by flipping the button on his side: ON, OFF and SFX. When switched to ON, Bing Bong says these five phrases when you press his bow tie:
  • "I'm part cat, part elephant, part dolphin."
  • "I look like a lot of people."
  • "D-A-N-G-E-R, short cut!"
  • *Dolphin Sounds*
  • *The Bing Bong Song*
When switched to SFX (meaning Sound Effects,), Bing Bong makes some additional noises:
  • "Whoo-Hoo!"
  • "Ow, ow...ow, owwww OWW!"
  • "Ah, chachachacha...ow! Owww!"
  • *The Bing Bong Song* (music only, no lyrics)
Reading about the details is only half of it...I bet what you really want is to see and hear this toy in action! I got you covered; be sure to check out my very brief YouTube video below:

If you'd like to add this to your collection, you can pretty much still find it in stores. It's starting to go away though, so hurry! If you'd rather just pick it up online, visit the TOMY official website, eBay HERE using this direct link to current listings or on Amazon using the link below. Again, highly recommended!

Cars 2: Siren Carbarini

Siren Carbarini cars 2

Here we have yet another new Mattel Cars 2 diecast character...Siren Carbarini! He is part of this year's 2015 "Palace Chaos" sub-line (#4/7) and is Mattel's signature 1:55 scale.

In the film, Siren is one of the London police officers (or "bobbies" since we're talking about England here) seen protecting the Queen from Miles Axlerod's "bomb." However, since there are many of these officers that look completely identical during the film's London scenes, it's hard to know exactly which one is actually Scott. The screenshot above is my best bet.

Siren here almost 100% identical to another London police car released in 2013 (Mark Wheelsen,  see post HERE). The only slight differences are his license plate number and facial expression. Note: for a great comparison of the two, head over to Take5aDay HERE to check out their post on the subtle differences (featuring loose pics).

Siren Carbarini

Even though I do have one just like this, it was different enough that I couldn't help but snag it (being the "completist" I am). If anything, it will work great for scene/diorama building!

You can find Siren in stores now (I just found him at my local Target yesterday actually). If you'd rather snag him online, be sure to check out current eBay listings HERE or visit Amazon using the direct link below. Happy hunting!

To Protect and Serve: Mattel Diecast 3-Pack

From the upcoming Cars Toon, To Protect and Serve, here we have a brand new Mattel 1:55 scale diecast 3-pack featuring Student Driver Lightning Mcqueen and two new characters! This short film has still yet to be released, though I do believe it should be coming relatively soon (It was announced clear back during the 2013 D23 Expo, so you'd think it would about that time). What's interesting is that we now have a book based on the film (released earlier this year in January) and these toys, yet we have no idea when or how it will make its debut. Definitely stay tuned for news on that in the near future!

Anyway, lets get to checking out this fun boxed set. The cars included here are Student Driver Lightning Mcqueen, Didi 05 (the white car, voiced by Wendi McLendon-Covey) and Mike 07 (the blue car, voiced by Aziz Ansari). I can't wait to see the short and the comedy that ensues with these hilarious new characters!

For those interested in what this toon will be about, here is the official synopsis (from my friends over at PixarPost.com who had the exclusive first look):

When Sheriff takes a mandatory vacation, two overzealous rookies from County take over his duties in Radiator Springs. Bent on making a good impression to score commendations, the rookies over-do every aspect of their jobs, finding “crimes” at every turn and turning the quiet little town into a hotbed of taped-off crime scenes. No one is safe and everyone’s a suspect until Sheriff senses an imbalance and returns home to right the “justice” that’s been served.

I was able to find this set at Walmart just a week or two. If you're looking to track it down for your Cars collection, be sure to visit your local stores to check for availability. Good luck out there and please let me know if you have any questions or comments!
