2021 Mattel Pixar Alien Remix Barbie & Ken with Dream Convertible Playset REVIEW
What’s up Pixar fans!? As a companion piece to my video review I did back in December last year, I’m back with another cool and groovy Mattel Pixar Alien Remix written blog post review. Today I’m taking a look this fantastic 2-pack featuring Barbie and Ken with dream convertible!
For months before this release, I had been seeing prototypes of Alien Remix Ken and Barbie being posted online for a while—mostly from collectors in China it seemed—so I knew these characters would be coming at some point, but I didn’t know when or how. Well late last year, they finally officially hit the U.S. and I was actually really surprised these two ended up being in a multipack like this (I mean it makes sense, I just hadn’t even thought of it), but even more of a surprise was the addition of the included dream convertible display stand piece (of course inspired by the pink corvette toy seen in Toy Story 3). I hadn’t heard anything about that coming so that was a super welcome surprise for sure.
For those keeping track, these are numbers 54 and 55 in Mattel’s ever expanding "Pixar Alien Remix" line.
Honestly guys, it’s crazy this collection is even still going after almost two years. I have no idea when it’s going to stop, but like I’ve mentioned before, I'm too deep into the line at this point so there’s no turning back now. Who’s with me? Please let me know I’m not in this alone. ;)
Anyway, how hilarious are these guys? These have to be some of my favorites in the whole Remix collection just because of of how unexpected they are. I don’t think I would have thought of "Remixing" Ken and Barbie, but you know I just love when we get toys and merch of characters that rarely get released whether it’s this toy line or any. I don’t know about you, but I’m all about getting the more obscure side and background characters as toys.
The oh-so-stylin and very well groomed Ken wears his iconic animal lovin’ outfit and, strangely enough, this character translates surprisingly well to an Alien Remix. And like I already said, it’s just hilarious to me. Just look at his little exposed chest there, his parted wavy hair and even his expression feels true to character. As usual he’s got three points of articulation: his head can rotate 360 and then both his arms can move up and down. His collar somewhat prevents is arms from rotating all the way around but I can tell you can kind of give them a tug outward a little and then rotate—that way you could turn them around 360 if you really wanted to, but that’s not really necessary at all. Overall this is a super fun and solid remix figure that’s sure to be one of the more popular releases.
Next up, just my quick thoughts on Barbie. She’s wearing her iconic great shape workout outfit from the 80’s and she looks really cute as well. I love the bright neon colors—that goes for both of them. She just pairs really well with Ken... it’s almost like they "made for each other". She has the same standard points of articulation (arms and head).
All in all, these are both cute, they both totally work and I appreciate the subtle
true to movie details. It’s been so fun to see all of the Mattel team’s
choices as to what characters get made in this line and I’m really
looking forward to who’s coming next.
Last up is the dream convertible vehicle which basically just acts as a display stand for one character at a time and of course this is inspired by Molly’s pink Barbie corvette from Toy Story 3 (but since Mattel obviously couldn’t say "corvette" here on the packaging, they’ve called it a "dream convertible" which is great. That’s perfect). By the way, I’m sure you know this Barbie car is from the opening scene of Toy Story 3 (the one the aliens and Potato Heads used as their getaway car), but a little fun fact here, it’s also seen in Ken’s dating tips #24. P.S. if you haven’t watched those, check them out— they’re pretty funny. They're just little snippets of Ken giving some dating advice that were used as part of the marketing leading up to Toy Story 3 back in 2010.
Ultimately this is a nice little representation of the car seen in the film even if it’s not exactly the same. And if you were wondering, no the tires do not rotate. The whole car is seemingly all just one molded piece without any moving parts. So that goes for the steering wheel as well, that’s also just static. I love that this car was included though, it really does make for a fun display piece and it looks awesome on my Alien Remix shelf next to all the other characters.
I don’t even have to say it but I'm gonna say it anyway, this is a must have set. If you’re already a collector of Mattel’s Pixar Alien Remix line, I can’t see why you wouldn’t want to track these two love birds down. They’re such a fun, funny, unique and overall welcome addition to the collection. Even if you haven’t dove into collecting all the Remix figures out there, this just makes for a great one off set as well if you’re a Toy Story fan and/or collector who loves these characters. Retail price is $20...and yah! I think that’s about it, so head to your local Target or Walmart to check for availability if you’re interested and be sure to leave your thoughts down below. Don't forget to check out my video review for more my additional thoughts and a closer out-of-the-box look!

2021 Mattel Pixar Alien Remix Woody & Buzz In Claw Machine Playset REVIEW
Hey everyone! Sorry things have been so quiet here on the blog. I've been putting all my focus and time into my YouTube channel so that I might be able to grow my audience there a bit, so that has meant putting my blog post reviews on the back burner for a while. If only there were more hours in the day! You can still find all the latest and greatest Pixar merch reviews there on my channel in the meantime while I catch up on some of my written reviews here. One of the newer items I've wanted to document here to get my blog posts rolling again is this brand new (yet to be released) 2021 Woody & Buzz in Claw Machine playset from Mattel as part of their ever expanding Pixar Alien Remix collection! A huge thanks to Mattel for sending this my way to review ahead of it's release. I am eternally grateful!
This set (the second Alien Remix playset following the Up/Dug Days inspired Carl & Dug's new home) includes unique NEW variants of Buzz and Woody and, as such, they’re given new numbers (number 42 and 43). And though it’s not specified, and it technically doesn’t matter too much, I’m guessing Woody is number 42 and Buzz is 43. And then obviously the main attraction here is the playset/display piece which is inspired by the iconic crane game design from the original Toy Story as seen in Pizza Planet and even has a rotating claw feature! And shout-out to the packaging team there at Mattel once again since the box and whole presentation here is awesome and really eye catching. Mattel has really been knocking their packaging designs out of the park (see it in more detail in my You Tube review).
So yah, at first glance, these two figures look almost identical to the original Mattel Buzz and Woody REMIX figures from last year, however their facial expressions are slightly different. Other than that though, they do utilize the same basic sculpts as last year’s figures so there aren’t many other differences at all. I do show a comparison in my video review if you're interested in seeing the differences for yourself.
And now to touch on the most exciting piece in this set, the Pizza Planet Claw Machine itself. Now again, I’ve been calling these "playsets", but really when it comes down to it it’s just a really cool display base/ backdrop. There is that one tiny little feature I mentioned with the claw where you can kind of move it all around and spin it manually (no button to make it spin on its own or anything), but yah I think something like this and the Up house set are geared more toward older kids and collectors who will be more into displaying their remix figures rather than playing with them. Since I am in the collector/displayer category, I just really dig the look of this overall. It’s nothing fancy or too detailed or anything like that, but the iconic design is nicely captured here and I love how it looks on display with all the other Remix figures. These sets do really add a fun new element to the line.
All in all, I'd say even if you’re a Toy Story fan who hasn’t necessarily gotten into collecting all of the Pixar Alien Remix figures, I think any Toy Story collector could just get this set here and appreciate it in their collection given that it captures the classic scene in a fun, fresh and unique way. I still haven’t spotted this at the stores yet, but I do know it will be arriving at Walmart very soon and will retail for the same price as the Up set (which would be around $19.99).
Like usual I’m really excited to hear your thoughts, so go ahead and sound them off in the chat below. You know I love when we can get a conversation going! Have you enjoyed collecting Mattel's Pixar Alien Remix line? What other Pixar inspired "playsets" like this one here would you like to see get made? Be sure to let me know and any other comments/questions you might have.

Mattel Pixar Alien Remix *NEW* 2021 WAVE 1 REVIEW!
Hey everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today I’m taking a look at the newest wave of Pixar Alien Remix figures from Mattel, which includes the first four of many more coming in 2021. If you've been following along with me for some time, I'm sure you know all about the Alien Remix collection as I've covered it pretty extensively—but if not, here's a little recap: in short, last year to celebrate Pixar and 25 years since Toy Story, Mattel (and many other companies such as Funko, Beast Kingdom, ShopDisney and so many more), made figures, apparel, pins, plush toys and other merchandise featuring Toy Story aliens dressed up as different Pixar characters. I ended up favoring the Mattel line and just stuck with collecting those ones since I knew, if I were to start collecting Alien Remix merch, that I would have to draw the line somewhere. If you wanna learn more about this complete assortment, be sure to check out my original blog post HERE.
Anyway, I was able to find this new wave of 2021 figures not too long ago at Target for $5.99 each and, as you can see here, they actually come in new, totally redesigned packaging. Gone are the rocket ship shaped boxes and instead we now have these more basic rectangle window boxes. I personally preferred last year’s rocket ship design, but it honestly doesn’t make much difference to me since I open them up to be displayed anyway. If you’re an in-box collector though, the change may bother you some. Let me know what you think.
Last year in 2020 there were 16 numbered characters and one unnumbered Comic Con exclusive Pizza Planet Truck set with delivery driver. So here we are now in 2021 and the same number system continues; in this wave there’s Duke Caboom (from Toy Story 4) who is number 17, Flik (from A Bug’s Life) is number 18, Sadness (from Inside Out) is number 19 and Syndrome (from The Incredibles) is number 20.
Let's take a closer look at them out of their boxes! They all look outstanding and it in perfectly with the rest of the collection.
Well that about covers it for my review of this first 2021 wave—and for all you Mattel Alien Remix collectors out there—I hope you watch and enjoy my video review below which includes a SNEAK PEEK at many more Mattel Alien Remix figures still to come later this year. Be sure to let me know who you're looking forward to the most and who else you're hoping gets made down in the comments.

2020 Mattel Pixar Alien REMIX Collection—Complete Set & My Display!
2020 was the year of a lot of things—one of which was the year of the Pixar Alien REMIX merchandise. Oh boy, that'll go down in history for Disney/Pixar collectors. It was EVERYWHERE. From plush, to pins, to Funko POPs, to blind boxes, to figurines, to wallets, to stickers, to FiGPINS, to pens, to backpacks, to clothing (not to mention all the internationally released items)...and the list goes on and on. One could say they went a bit overboard with it all and they would probably be right. However, in small doses, it's actually a very fun and creative idea and I did enjoy collecting select merch. I did draw the line though and told myself to just choose one assortment—whatever one I liked best—which ended up being the Alien REMIX figures from Mattel!
Though I'm usually a Pixar Funko POP completest as well, I just couldn't swing all of them this time. So rather than going down the Funko POP rabbit hole for these, I decided to go for the Mattel figures instead for a few reasons: they're less expensive, more easily accessible/easier to track down and smaller in size (I think I do also favor their designs). Don't get me wrong, I still really like the Funko ones too—if I had unlimited space, I probably would have gone for them as well. When it came down to it though, the Mattel figures were the best ones for me.
In 2020, there were 17 Pixar Alien REMIX figures released (three waves of five and two exclusives). Each one (except the Pizza Planet Truck/Driver) is numbered. Here's how the releases were broken up along with their numbers:
Wave 1:
- #1 Buzz Lightyear
- #2 Merida
- #3 Sulley
- #4 Miguel
- # 5 Mr. Incredible
Wave 2:
- #6 Woody
- #7 Remy
- #8 Boo
- #9 Edna
- #10 Anger
Exclusive 1:
- #11 Tinny (Exclusive to the Disney Store/Disney Parks/ShopDisney)
Wave 3:
- #12 Russell
- #13 Lotso
- #14 Heimlich
- #15 Bing Bong
- #16 Nemo
- Pizza Planet Truck + Driver (Exclusive to Comic-Con 2020/Instagram)—Not Numbered
Good thing there's some extra space still available on the shelf because guess what—this collection isn't over! The line will be continuing throughout 2021 with brand new characters such as Flik, Sadness, Duke Caboom, Syndrome and more (UPDATE: 2021 Wave 1 Blog post HERE). I'm looking forward to it! They should be released very soon, so stay tuned.

Pixar Alien REMIX Tinny Figure (by Mattel) REVIEW
Following my review of the Mattel Alien Remix Pizza Planet Driver from last month (FULL POST), here's the latest exclusive Remix character I couldn't resist due to its uniqueness—Tinny from Toy Story 4 (who, of course, was originally the star of Pixar's short film Tin Toy)! I'm still on the fence when it comes to committing to the whole Mattel Alien Remix line (since there are so many of them with possibly more to come in 2021), but I continue to cherry-pick my favorites. This one was a must since 1.) I collect anything Tinny from Tin Toy (look below to see my Tinny collection so far; I love any Pixar short film related merch) and 2.) It's a limited exclusive item (released only at the Disney Parks and Disney Stores/ShopDisney.com).
Update: I committed to the whole line ;) Full blog post HERE.
First things first. For those trying to keep track of them all, let's break things down...
Tinny is number 11 in Mattel's range of Pixar Alien Remix figures (not associated with the Funko POP versions). The list so far in includes:
WAVE 1
- #1- Buzz Lightyear
- #2- Merida
- #3- Sulley
- #4- Miguel
- #5- Mr. Incredible
- #6- Woody
- #7- Remy
- #8- Boo
- #9- Edna
- #10- Anger
WAVE 3
- #12- Russell
- #13- Lotso
- #14- Heimlich
- #15- Bing Bong
- #16- Nemo
No surprise here! He's absolute adorable; as cute as any of the other Remix Aliens— though I do have to say, Tinny translated particularly well into this whole "remix" concept. He's just under 4" tall, has a removable "one-man-band" piece (needs to be inserted into Tinny's back upon opening) and retails for for $8.99 (purchase at your local Disney Store, Disney Parks or ShopDisney.com HERE).
What are you thoughts? If you're an avid collector of the Pixar Alien Remix figures, you will not want to miss this one. Or you may even be like me, interested in this due to it being a bit more unique and/or that you're a fan of the short film. Either way, I highly recommend this for your Pixar collection! It's the perfect display piece for kids or adults, especially when presented with all the other Remix figures.
Be sure to share your comments and any questions you might have down below!

Toy Story: Pixar Alien Remix Pizza Planet Truck Driver (By Mattel— Comic-Con 2020 Exclusive)
I have been chosen! A huge thank you to Mattel for gifting me this super[nova] cute, brand new Comic-Con 2020 Exclusive Pixar Alien Remix Pizza Planet Truck Driver in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Toy Story this year. I feel honored to have received this product for free and thrilled that I have the chance to review it here for you all! I could not believe how fast this thing sold out. It was literally gone within just a few minutes after the link went live. So yes, I am eternally grateful.
This brilliantly executed figure was revealed on the "Mattel Creations" Instagram page on July 14th and dropped there to purchase on July 23rd as a "Comic-Con Exclusive" (since there was no actual Comic-Con this year) for $20. I knew right away that this was a must-have for me. Though I've been on the fence about collecting all of Mattel's Alien Remix figures (mainly just due to the lack of display room these days), I wasn't going to pass this one up. It was just too unique and awesome looking—plus limited/exclusive merch is always more enticing due to the chase. That's the collector in me! The collector in me is also a "completest", so you know what that means. Yup, now I'm going to have to snag Mattel's entire Alien Remix collection. ;)
First of all, like usual, I have to give huge props to the team who designed the packaging. SO good! Mattel always has spacetacular packaging and presentation, especially for their con-exclusives. This box is inspired by what a Pizza Planet pizza box could have looked like if we had seen it on screen in the film. I love how on the back (seen below) it reads "Out of this world flavor" and "Lightspeed delivery across the galaxy" with the asterisk of "*Deliveries guaranteed in 30 minutes within the Tri-County area." Brilliant stuff! It's hard to tell in my photos, but take a closer look and you'll notice a bunch of fake "pizza grease" stains throughout the box as well.
The "Space Toppings" on the side of the box are so clever too! As someone who uses food puns in my work every day (I respond for Subway social media), I really appreciated the effort that went into these. Really fantastic work.
OooOOoooOOooo...check it out!! Ok is this not the coolest? If you didn't know, this figure even comes with a detailed cardboard Pizza Planet Truck (with plastic rocket) to really help take your Alien Remix display to the next level! The delivery driver figure comes displayed (and attached) inside the driver's seat, but can be easily removed.
Take a detailed, out-of-box look below! The truck measures approximately 9" L x 7" H (that's to the top of the rocket) x 4" W.
The trunk has a large open window and space for one (possibly two) Alien Remix figure to fit inside (it would be sweet if both Buzz and Woody could fit; I'll have to test it out). There are some fun printed movie accurate details as well, such as the tool chest, Pizza Planet cup and grape soda can. Lots of "grime" and "dirt" all over the truck too! Even the license plate/number is straight from the film.
There is a clear, thin sheet of plastic on the passenger side window and the windshield. The driver's side window does not have any plastic. As mentioned, the rocket on the top of the truck is also plastic. I really like that touch.
Underneath the truck is a little perforated hatch. Pull this open and then twist off those two little doodads—that will release the driver from being attached to the truck.
Here's a closer look at the truck's "cockpit" (as Buzz calls it) once I removed the figure.
And here's the driver himself! He's seriously OUT OF THIS WORLD CUTE. I love his hat, little outfit (the fact that one side of the shirt is untucked is adorable) and the Pizza Planet pizza box he's holding. He stands just a little over 3" tall. Such a [inter]stellar design!
Well I think that about covers it, everyone. What do you guys think? Do you love this as much as I do? Were you one of the lucky few to snag one the day of release? If you missed out, no worries. Though not ideal, there are plenty of listings on eBay currently if you're willing to pay around $50-$60 for him. If you're a serious collector (and if you're collecting all the other Remix figures), I'd say this is totally worth it and a must-have.
Shout out any questions or comments you may have down below and be sure to stay tuned right here regularly for more from my ever expanding Pixar collection!
