Cars: Mega Mack Playtown

Piston Cup, here we come!

This giant three foot Disney·Pixar Cars "Mega Mack Playtown", released in 2007 by Mattel, is a four in one play set featuring movie sounds and multiple play areas. You can use it as the Mack truck character himself, or open him up recreate three iconic scenes from the film! 

This has become extremely hard to come by over the years and typically sells for over $100 on the secondary market (new in box). I got extremely lucky recently when I won this loose one on eBay for just $12- almost complete and in near perfect condition! The only thing it's missing is the plastic Lightning Mcqueen that came with it; but since I have so many Mcqueens already in my collection, I figured I'd go ahead with this even without him included.

Here's everything that comes with this set (besides the missing Lightning Mcqueen): two desert backdrops, four Radiator Springs backdrops, a plastic Bessie, a plastic Doc Hudson and a launcher. Check out this set in its original packaging HERE.

And here it is all opened up and assembled! It looks super cool and is a whole lot of fun.

My favorite area of this "playtown" is the dirt race track with Doc Hudson front and center. Such a classic movie moment! When you launch the car around the track, you'll hear either racing sounds or Mack saying "Let's start our adventure!" Press down Doc on top of Willy's Butte there to hear him say "Now that's how you drift."

As you can see, this Doc is specific to this set and has room for the "sound activation peg" (for lack of a better term) underneath him.

Also, the launcher itself can be rotated. Position the launcher facing the dirt track to race around Willy's Butte...

...Or turn it to send cars busting through the gate on the main road (look out for that cactus!)... 

...Or face it towards  Radiator Springs! Watch it though, you'll be in a heap of trouble if you break the road.

 

Here are the three included Radiator Springs backdrops. As you can see, only three can fit behind the road at one time.

Here's another great feature: launch Lightning (or really any character) through Radiator Springs and he'll trigger road breaking action with crushing sound effects! Use Bessie to press the road back down and you'll hear road fixing sound effects and Mack saying "Let's fix that road!", "Piston Cup here we come!" and "Yippe Yio Pavement!" Really cool stuff.

Additionally, press down on Mack's hat to hear some honking/truck sounds, "Piston Cup here we come!" and "Come with me to California!"

I highly recommend this- I'd say it's great for both kids and collectors. If you have an opportunity to snag this for a decent price, I'd go for it.
