Toy Story 4: Hot Wheels "Character Cars" Collection + Buzz Lightyear Carnival Rescue Trackset

toy story 4 hotwheels character cars

Back in 2010, right around the theatrical release of Toy Story 3, Mattel released a fantastic collection of Toy Story character inspired Hot Wheels diecast vehicles (see my full post featuring all original 16 HERE). I was thrilled to see the collection continue last year with four brand new Toy Story 4 characters—Forky, Bo Peep, Ducky & Bunny and Duke Caboom; all in the same style as the ones released a decade ago! It's like no time has passed at all.

As seen on the back of the package below, there are technically eight Toy Story 4 diecasts. Woody (#1/8), Buzz Lightyear (#2/8), Alien (#3/8) and Rex (#4/8), however, are all almost identical to the 2010 versions (essentially re-releases) There are some minor differences, but not enough for me to justify getting them again. For those who missed them originally though, this is good news for you! For me, I purchased only the brand new characters.

I won't be taking these out of the packages at this time (since I'm saving them for when my boy Aidan is older), but you can see them all pretty clear in my close-up shots below! The designs are, once again, very clever—brilliantly stylized to capture the feel/essence and colors of the characters without any kind of face or body (Forky is kind of the exception).

Check em' out!

UPDATE 12/29/21: Well looks like I couldn't help myself...again. I did end up getting the Toy Story 4 editions of Woody, Buzz, Rex and Alien recently since they are technically different than the original releases. That's my "completest mentality" for ya! You can see them and a recent YouTube video I made featuring all 25 of the Hot Wheels Toy Story Character Cars below.

Also released summer 2019 was this super fun Toy Story 4 inspired "Buzz Lightyear Carnival Rescue" track set! A track set was something we never got back in 2010, so this was an awesome addition this go-around (adding that much more play value to the diecast cars). It comes with the Buzz Lightyear character car (same as the Toy Story 4 single pack version) and two exclusive Ducky and Bunny "Minis"! It's cool that Mattel combined their Hot Wheels and Toy Story 4 Minis collections into one toy.

Again, I haven't opened this track set up here, but I have tested it elsewhere! It works as it should and is a whole lot of fun. See how it works and all the different play features on the back of the package below and be sure to check out THIS YouTube video from my friends at TTPM to witness it in action. Retail price is around $17.99, but it varies slightly by location.

Note: I'm still not sure why the Ducky and Bunny Minis didn't get a decent paint job for this track set (Bunny has no green in his ears or on his tummy and Ducky doesn't have orange feet). That would be only slight complaint here, but at least the regular editions of the Ducky and Bunny Minis look much better.

There we have it everyone! I absolutely recommend this collection, especially if you or your little one is a Hot Wheels/diecast cars lover and Toy Story fan. By the way, if you're looking for a neat starter 6-pack, you can start  your collection with this one HERE from Amazon using the link below. I'll link all the others below as well, but you can also still find them very easily at Walmart and Target stores. Each diecast retails for $3.99.

Let me know all your thoughts down in the comments! Which one is your personal fave? Have you collected any of these?

Happy hunting!
