Cars 2: Comic-Con 2012 Exclusive Tokyo Bathroom Mater

Hey everyone! Here is the 2012 Comic-Con exclusive Mater in Japanese bathroom set with lights and sounds (based on the classic moment as seen in Cars 2, screen shot above)! This is such an awesome piece geared toward adult collectors.

First of all, the package is great. It's really colorful and captures the fun of the scene from the film. I'm not usually one for anime or that style, but it works here for me here because it's Cars and specific to the scene from the film : )

When you open up the package, you'll find Mater in the fancy, ultra-modern Tokyo party bathroom surrounded by a thick, sturdy plastic case (which can be removed by unscrewing it from the bottom but I would not recommend it if you are a serious collector). This is a 1:55 scale collectible from Mattel and Mater is not removable.

Press the button (seen above) for the lights, sounds and action! The "water" lights up as it sprays Mater's "undercarriage" and lifts him and the scrubbing brushes forward. The control panel lights up with all the same music, screaming and dialog seen in the film.

The screen is a 3D lenticular material which means the image changes as you move back and forth.

Below is a brief video so you can see it in action:

Lastly, a big thanks to my super cool Aunt who got me this for Christmas! What are you thoughts??

  1. That set is awesome! I hadn't seen it before but just looked up images and found a video on youtube with the flames in action. Very cool! I don't usually follow the Cars Toons diecast but that one might have to be an exception :)

Any chance you're still gonna do that post about your cars collection? That was be outstanding, I'm sure.

  2. Yeah, I don't collect the Toons either, but I collect as many of the special releases as I can and the SDCC releases are always really cool!

Not sure if I'll do the full post of the collection or not - the problem that I have is that it will take a long time to post and it will be hard to update since it's always in flux! I may do groupings based on sets like the Speedway of the South one or the SDCC cars or something like that. At least I have them all logged now in a nice spreadsheet that I can reference when I'm out (in case I forget).
