My Pixar Themed Home Office
Long before my wife and I purchased our home back in the spring of 2017, I imagined creating a Pixar themed home office (or "man cave") one day. I was so set on this, in fact, that one of my requirements as we searched for a house was that there was a spare room for said office. My wish came true that summer when we moved into our forever home! It was the first big project I worked on and completed. It's been almost three years now and, though I've posted about it on social media many times, I realized recently that I never documented it here on the blog...so here we go!
NOTE: This is not a comprehensive look at all the items in my office. For that there are individual detailed blog posts for each item you see here. If you have any questions about anything that stands out to you, I can help direct you to my post. Additionally, my office doesn't contain my entire Pixar collection (if only I had an office space that big). There are countless bins in my attic and basement holding the rest of the toys as they wait to be played with by my son Aidan when he's old enough.
The first part of this project was picking out the perfect "Pixar Blue" for the walls. I went through probably four or five colors before landing on this one. Some were too light, some were too dark, some were too bright...until this one, which I feel is perfect! If you're curious, it's called Clerestory Blue (I purchased BEHR brand, eggshell finish).
I then had to figure out a vision for the small space I had to work with; as far as a computer desk, shelving, etc. What would it all look like? What color furniture? How would I display my collectibles? There were SO many ideas that went through my mind and even more ideas when looking around online. It was overwhelming for sure.
Luckily my vision became clear while looking around IKEA one night. As soon as I saw this collection of shelving + computer desk, I was like "that's it." A light wood tone with the light blue would feel so fresh and look so clean! It just seemed to capture the Pixar aesthetic to me. Anyway, I got the measurements and went home to find out each piece would fit PERFECTLY in the small corners of my little office space. What are the chances? It's almost like it was all custom made to fit. It was totally meant to be and I couldn't be happier with the final result.
The pieces I purchased were from IKEA's HEMNES collection. Here are the links if you're interested (unfortunately they don't carry this light brown color anymore):
I have vivid memories of very late nights (and some all-nighters) assembling everything you see here! It was all worth it (i.e. a labor of love).
There you have it, folks: My Pixar office. It continues to expand and evolve often, so I wouldn't expect everything you see here to stay like this forever. For now though, I'm incredibly satisfied with how it looks. I'm super grateful for my office, it's one of my favorite places to be (my "Happy Place" as it says on my Finding Nemo shelf), though I can't help but fantasize it being a much bigger room to fit more of my collection. Hey, I can dream can't I?
