The Incredibles "Glory Days Suit" Mr. Incredible—Mattel's Pixar 7" Scale Action Figure Collection

Welcome back to the blog! Today I'm taking a look at the brand new The Incredibles "Glory Days Suit" Mr. Incredible, as part of Mattel's ever-expanding 7" scale line of Pixar action figures! So far this one has only been released on Amazon in Amazon's exclusive closed-box style packaging, but I'm sure it will get an in-store release at Target in the near future on the standard open-blister style cardback. I'll update this post when that happens. 

I'm so happy this figure finally got released and it looks so, so cool—certainly doesn't disappoint! I saw the reveal of this one clear back in January/February this year and have been looking forward to it ever since. Of course as usual with these types of character variants, this Mr. Incredible uses the exact same mold/sculpt as last year's red suit version. Literally the only difference with this one is the costume change. Like I typically say, my only little nitpick is I do wish Mattel could have at least changed up the facial expression and/or pose to make this one a little more unique, but it's not a huge biggie. I totally understand that it's a cost saving thing and it still totally works.

 

And here he is out of the box in all his GLORY! Once again, the figure is solid (stands really well on his own which is great for both play and us collectors who display), includes 12 points of articulation and stands right around 8" tall. Retail price on Amazon is $12.99 (direct link below).

All in all, I'm thrilled that this Mr. Incredible joins so many other The Incredibles characters in this line including: Mr. Incredible (red suit), Elastigirl, Dash, Violet, several versions of Jack-Jack, Syndrome, and Frozone (if we're counting the Interactables figures here which I am ;). I'd love to see Edna released in this scale as well!

Toy Story Buzz & Woody Hanna Anderson Organic Cotton Long John PJs

In late August of just this past year, Hanna Anderson (known for their hand-me-down quality children's clothing) released an incredibly cute line of Disney·Pixar organic cotton pajamas for little ones. Included in the collection are designs inspired by literally all my top favorite Pixar films—it's like it was made with me and my little Pixar trainee in mind! Toy Story (seen here in this post), Monsters. Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars and Coco are all represented, with the addition of one pattern featuring a whole bunch of colorful, adorably stylized characters from across all of Pixar's golden age films. We seriously loved them all and couldn't choose which ones to get, so my parents were generous enough to buy us each design and we couldn't be more thrilled!

Each pair of pajamas originally came in many sizes, ranging from 3-6 months all the way up to size 12. Retail price for this particular pair, I believe, was $42. This is size 18-24 months and they fit my 18 month year old son perfectly right now. How amazing is this Toy Story inspired design featuring the unstoppable duo of Woody and Buzz Lightyear? I seriously love the art so much.

This line has unfortunately since sold out, but you may be able to find them through third party sellers if you do a little searching online. These are high quality, super cozy jammies that I can't recommend enough if you're able to get your hands on them. I'm looking forward to sharing the others we got as soon as well! What do you think? Toy Story 4 Sheriff Jessie—Mattel's Pixar 7" Scale Action Figure Collection

What's going on Pixar fans!? Today I'm excited to share one of the newest additions to my Mattel Pixar 7" scale action figure collection—Sheriff Jessie, directly inspired by the end of Toy Story 4 when Woody hands off his iconic sheriff's badge to Jessie! I never would have thought of making this version of Jessie as an action figure, so kudos to Mattel for surprising me. This was certainly a unique idea and I appreciate that it's now part of the ever expanding 7" figure line.

The only downside to this figure is, other than the addition of the sheriff's badge, the rest of the figure is the exact same sculpt as the original 2019 7" scale Jessie figure that has been released numerous times. I wish Mattel had at least changed up the head sculpt with a new facial expression or something, but it's not a deal breaker. It would have just been a nice touch that would have made this release that much more exciting. 

This figure was supposed to be released last year in 2020 (see the original packaging HERE), but it was delayed and ended up releasing this year instead just a few weeks back (with a redesigned package). This figure is being found at Target stores across the US, but I haven't found it in my area yet. So I ended up finding it on Amazon in the Amazon exclusive closed box style packaging seen here in this post. I do like the in-store open blister packaging better, but this will do! Ultimately it's having the figure that counts for me.

Jessie stands at about 8 3/4" tall, is solid all around (stands up well on her own which is good for play and for us collectors) and has lots of good articulation for posing. Retail price is $9.99 at Target and $12.99 on Amazon.

Monsters Inc. "Getting to Know Boo" Figure Pack— Mattel's 7" Action Figure Collection

As a follow-up to Mattel's Monsters Inc. "Scare Pack" set released last year, here we have the brand new "Getting to Know Boo" pack—once again as part of Mattel's signature scale 7" action figure collection! So far this set has only been released in the UK ("only at Smyth's Toys"), so a HUGE thank you to my Instagram friend and fellow collector Hayley ("hayleytoystory") for helping me get this. She lives in the UK and was nice enough to order this set for me and send it all the way to my home here in Connecticut. 

So I'm not sure if this will stay a UK/Smyth's exclusive or if it will eventually be available here in the states as well. We'll have to wait and see! For now though, I didn't want to pass up the chance to get it just in case it sold out and never came back. This was a must have for me ever since I saw it revealed earlier this year. I just love how surprising it was and how truly unique it is.

This set includes three characters and loads of awesome accessories! With this figure pack, you can recreate the classic scene from the film when a terrified Mike and Sulley bring little Boo back to their appartment only to find out she's not so dangerous after all. Shout-out to the packaging team at Mattel for the genius box design—inside and out!

Here we have Sulley (brand new scared face version; comes with removable garbage can lid shield and colander helmet), Mike Wazowski (also with a brand new scared face; comes with removable spray can, two oven mitts, two snorkel fins and snorkel mask), Boo (pink nighty version; Boo in her monster costume was released in last year's set) and Mike's stuffed monster Little Mikey. I absolutely love how scene specific the figures and all the accessories are! Brilliant idea, perfect execution. 

Sulley is about 8" tall, Mike stands at 4" tall, Boo is 2 3/4" tall and Little Mikey is 2" in size. All are solid, have some great articulation and stand well on their own. Excellent for play or display. Retail price for this gift pack is £19.99 (or about $28 here in the US). Check them out in more detail out of the packaging below!

Frozone & Mike Wazowski "Interactables" 7" Scale Talking Action Figures (from Mattel)

 

Hey Pixar fans and welcome back to the blog! Today I'm taking a look at couple of the Mattel Pixar "Interactables" figures that I picked up from Amazon recently—Frozone from The Incredibles and Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc./Monsters at Work! For those who may not have heard of these before, the Pixar Interactables line is an offshoot of Mattel's basic/core Pixar 7" action figure collection. They're the same size, make and style as the basic figures, but these ones talk and, as the name suggests, even interact with each other! 

Last year there were six Interactables figures released: Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Syndrome, Mr. Incredible and Frozone. While I honestly wasn't too interested in the line (mainly just because they were all figures of characters I already collected as part of the core line and they weren't too different other than the talking feature), one did catch my attention and has tempted me for quite some time: Frozone. Mattel still hasn't released Frozone as a basic/non-talking figure (and I'm not sure if they ever will), so I finally decided to just get him in this sub-line to at least have the character to go with Syndrome, Mr. Incredible and the rest of the Parr family! 

What really pushed me to get these though is when I saw the brand new Mike Wazoski Interactables figure on Amazon recently. I just love that he's now wearing his Monsters Inc. hard hat AND that the figure includes some sweet accessories: an MI clip board and a scream can (well technically it's a "laugh can" from Monsters at Work, but wither way I'm a sucker for any scream can merch so this really did it for me).

As you can see on the back of the package, a Sulley Interactables figure is coming soon as well! The Amazon listing says he'll be available on June 26th.

As far as the talking feature, I counted 12 sayings for Frozone and 18 sayings for Mike Wazowski (though there could be more). Press their buttons to hear their phrases and hold down their buttons for two seconds to hear additional phrases. Stand/hold them near other Interactables figures and press their buttons and that will activate the interactive feature (the conversation goes back and forth typically three times). The conversations aren't super coherent (seems like it's more like they say a random selection of phrases to each other), but it's fun either way. I will also also note that the voices are not done by the original actors (which does take some getting use to), but they are loud and clear.

These are fantastic looking figures overall and I'm so happy I went ahead and purchased them! The sculpts are really solid and they stand really well on their own. There's some really nice articulation as well. As far as size, Frozone is just about 8" tall and is 4.5" tall. Take a closer look at them out of the packages below...

Each Interactables figure retails for $14.99. They're mainly available on Amazon (some Nordstrom Racks have them too), so I'll link those below for your convenience. For all you Pixar collectors out there, I highly suggest picking them up (and any the other characters that were released), especially if you already collect Mattel's 7" line of action figures! These go hand in hand perfectly and fit right in.

Disney·Pixar Cars Lightning McQueen "Like a Boss" T-Shirt (by Fifth Sun)

In celebration of the 15th anniversary of Pixar's Cars—the original classic (released in theaters June 9th, 2006)—tonight I’m taking a quick look at this Lightning McQueen "Like a Boss" men's graphic tee by Fifth Sun! I actually got this shirt a couple years ago and have been meaning to post on it ever since. When I remembered it recently, I figured today would be the perfect day to finally get to it! 

All in all, this is a really nice tee. I really like the heather navy blue color, the graphic is cool (and pretty minimal) and it fits and feels great. I can totally suggest picking this up for any of you adult Pixar Cars fans out there like me! Mattel's PIXAR "Minis"—SERIES 2 Review (with Blind Bag Codes)!

IT'S ABOUT TIME! At long last, I finally got my hands on Mattel's "PIXAR" Minis—Series 2! The first series—"PIXAR" Series 1—came out last spring (soon after being revealed at the New York Toy Fair) and this second series should have followed shortly after that. So what happened?? Well this Series 2 was in fact released last year, but only internationally (I believe only in Mexico, Japan and possibly other countries; I've heard the UK has gotten them recently as well). I have no idea why the US never got them (at least I've never heard of anyone finding them here). I waited over a year hoping they would finally get distributed here, but no such luck. So how did I get them? Well, I finally gave in and bought them overpriced on eBay of course! Since at this point there's no guarantee they'll ever show up here in the states, I wanted to secure them while I still could (even if I had to pay $7 for each one). Ultimately it was totally worth it to me since I've been such an avid collector of Mattel's Minis; I couldn't stand missing an entire series.

If you're unfamiliar with Mattel's "Minis", let me share a little more about them. The line began with Toy Story "Minis" Series 1 blind bags (and a 10-pack) back in 2016 and, was so popular, it continued on up through Series 5 in 2018. In 2019, after a bit of a hiatus, the "Minis" made a comeback in a new Toy Story 4 centric collection—which had several series of its own in 2019 featuring previously released characters and new ones from Toy Story 4. Because of the success of these mini figures, Mattel expanded the "Minis" style figures last year in 2020 to Onward (seen HERE), more Toy Story (seen HERE), Soul (seen HERE) and a general "PIXAR" series (seen HERE, which is the "PIXAR Series 1" I referred to above). 

Earlier this year, a surprise "Pixar All-Star Rivals" series came out (seen HERE) which is separate from "PIXAR" Series 1 & 2 (though it is similar to "PIXAR" Series 2 here since both feature hero and villain pairs). Pixar's next film Luca will also be getting its own Minis series as well. You can see all the Minis in my collection by exploring the "Mattel Pixar Minis" label to the right of this page.

BLIND BAG CODES—
Ok now for what many of you are here for—the blind bag codes! What's really neat about any of the blind bags that Mattel puts out is that you don't have to guess which character is inside if you have the right info and know what to look for. There's a code (a series of numbers/letters) on the back of each bag near the top. The last letter is what you're looking for as it will correspond to a particular character. For example, the bag I have down below (I circled the letter you want to pay attention to) is bag L (who is Alpha from Up). It's that simple! Here's the full list:

All of the Minis in this series are brand new, except Buzz Lightyear (who's a repack from the Toy Story 4 Minis) and Zurg (who's a repack from the original 2016 Toy Story Minis). Mr. Incredible was also released in the Pixar Minis Advent Calendar I got recently (seen HERE). So yah, I didn't rebuy Buzz, Zurg or Mr. Incredible since I already got them previously, but I included them here in this review so your can see the collection in its entirety. 

I should also note that even though Randall here is the same sculpt as the Pixar All-Star Rivals Series version from this year (seen HERE), this one in "PIXAR" Series 2 is actually a different version version as it doesn't have the translucent legs/tail.

I think that just about covers it! I absolutely love the unique and diverse selection of characters Mattel gave us here with this series. While I don't feel Buzz and Zurg were necessary to include here (not only have they already been released, but Toy Story has had many series of its own; I would have loved to see two new characters here instead), it's still an awesome group.  

 

"PIXAR" Series 3 was also suppose to come out last year, but it never happened. Has it been canceled or just delayed? As seen at last year's Toy Fair, it was to include Merida & Bear Cub from Brave, Kevin & Russell from Up, Fear & Disgust from Inside Out, Heimlich & Flik from A Bug's Life and Jack-Jack & Elastigirl from The Incredibles. Luckily we still ended up getting Flik in the Pixar All-Star Rivals series and Elastigirl in the Pixar Minis Advent Calendar. I'm still holding out hope that Series 3 still gets its proper release as planned!

Up Deluxe Figurine Playset (Disney Store/ShopDisney)—2021 Edition

From the Disney Store/ShopDisney.com, tonight I'm taking a detailed look at the brand new Disney·Pixar Up Deluxe Figurine Playset! There haven't been any Up figures like this released since 2009, so this was a real treat and completely unexpected. I was thrilled when I saw it revealed a month or so ago! And since Up just celebrated its 12 year anniversary on May 29th, I figured now would be the perfect time to get this review up here on the blog. 

One of my most prized items in my collection is my original 2009 Disney Store Up Figure Playset (full review HERE; I have the UK version, which includes Charles Muntz). It's incredibly hard to find now, but listings do pop up on eBay every now and then (however it typically sells for over $200). How does this new 2021 version hold up to the original? Pretty good actually! This is an excellent set. Though ultimately I do feel the original 2009 version is better and more quality overall (to me, the figures just feel more solid/sturdy and more detailed—they just don't make them like they use to), this one certainly holds its own and is the perfect alternative if you're unable to get the 2009 version. It's honestly very comparable—some of you may even like the looks of this one more.  

This set retails for $26.99 and includes nine characters: Carl Fedricksen, Russell, Dug, Kevin, Young Carl, Young Ellie, Alpha, Beta and Gamma. I should note that there is a more basic version for $14.99, which includes only six characters (Muntz's three dogs are excluded).

Even though I already have the 2009 version, I felt this was a must have too. First, Up figures like this only come out once in a blue moon, so I couldn't miss out! Second, I do think it's fun to have new and updated versions of the characters I already have (I like that Carl is smiling in this set and grumpy in the 2009 set, etc.; all the figures here are a totally new take on the characters, which is cool). Third, this set includes young Carl and Ellie—two awesome characters that were not featured in the original playset. Lastly, my original set is "for display only" and is front and center on my Up shelf in my Pixar home office. This set I feel good about giving to my son Aidan to play with since he loves watching Up! He already loves playing with these and setting them up, since he totally recognizes and knows the characters.

Sometimes the Disney Store's figurine sets (especially the mainstay $14.99 price point ones that are even more mass-produced) aren't the best quality. The first edition Deluxe sets though (like this one) are typically pretty nice though. This one doesn't disappoint! The sculpts/likenesses and paint look fantastic and they feel decently solid (by the way, there's no articulation with these; think of them as little statues). I bet the bases will break easily if kids play too rough with them, but if you're just getting this set for display, then you won't run into any issue there.

Which figure here is your favorite? Which set do you like better, this 2021 version or the one from 2009? All in all, like I said, I personally like the original a bit better for various reasons (though I may be a bit biased). However, there's pros and cons to both and I think it may come down to personal preference. This new one does has a lot going for it and is totally worth getting—I think Carl especially is a huge standout here and I love that young Carl and Ellie were included.
