Finding Dory: Funko Mystery Minis

finding dory funko mystery minis

From Funko, here we have their brand new collection of Finding Dory Mystery Mini blind box vinyl figures! I had been anticipating this release for quite some time, so I was thrilled when I stumbled upon it at Hot Topic just this past week. Luckily for me a fresh case had just been put out, so nothing was picked over. Even better, each figure was on sale for 30% off.

The way this assortment is organized is a bit different than last year's Inside Out Mystery Minis set. With that collection, you were guaranteed all 12 figures if you were to purchase a new, untouched case. This time around, rather than 12, there are 15 characters to collect and each one has a designated ratio per case.

For example, both Dory and Nemo have a 1/6 ratio; so with there being 12 figures in each case, that means there will always be two Nemos and two Dorys. Marlin, Hank, Mr. Ray, Pearl and Dory (with tag) are all 1/12, so every case is guaranteed one of each of those as well.

If you're following along, the 1/6 characters and the 1/12 characters make up nine of the twelve figures. That leaves just three per case for your chances of getting either a 1/24 character (Gerald, camouflaged Hank, Fluke and Rudder), a 1/36 character (Bailey and Otter) or a 1/72 character (Becky and Destiny). This makes it a bit harder to get them all (which is admittedly a bit frustrating), but I guess it does make for a fun hunt!

I had an absolute blast opening these today and was shocked that I got the exact three rare ones I was hoping for. Destiny, camouflaged Hank and Gerald were the three I really wanted right off the bat...and they're exactly who I got! I never have luck like that. Check 'em all out in more detail below!

Gerald
What's up with the yellow bucket? In the film, as well as on the packaging, it's a green bucket. Oh well... (UPDATE- there is now a rare green bucket variant out there, but it's hard to come by in the wild)

Destiny
This one is huge! When I felt the weight of the box, I had a feeling it would be her. Boy was I surprised to get a 1/72 character!!

Camouflaged Hank
If you watch THIS clip from the film, you'll notice that this Hank is based on his camouflaged appearance against the tile wall in the Marine Life Institute office.

Marlin

These are some very cool stylized figures. Some of my favorites include Destiny, Gerald, Mr. Ray, Camouflaged Hank and Nemo...but who am I kidding, I love them all! Now I'm determined to find the last five: Fluke, Rudder, Becky, Otter and Bailey.

UPDATE 7/04/16-
I've officially added sea lions Fluke and Rudder to my collection! These are both 1/24 characters and are both some of the largest in this set. Fluke is especially heavy, which makes him a bit easier to find when searching through a case of blind boxes.

These look great! There was no way I could have Gerald without these two...I'm glad the trio is now complete.

UPDATE 8/07/16-
This week I added Bailey and the Sea Otter (both 1/36 characters) to my collection! I was able to get these on eBay together for a really decent price. If you're looking to track these down as well (without having to go through blind boxes), be sure to check out current listings HERE.

14 down, one to go. Now I just need that crazy loon Becky to round things out!

 Sea Otter
Come to find out, there is also a rare, brown color Otter variant out there as well (which is more movie accurate and matches the one seen on the package). This one I have here is the common gray version. Man!

UPDATE 10/12/16-
Finally! Last but definitely not least, Becky the loon has been added to my collection. Now I officially have the complete set of Finding Dory Mystery Minis!

This is such a funny design and it goes perfect with the rest of the figures. I love the twitching eye and the tongue hanging out...it really captures Becky's, well, "looniness." Again, Becky is a 1/72 character so she is much harder to come by. I was able to win this on eBay this past week for a very good deal, but you can usually expect to see her listed for anywhere between $25-$35. Take a closer look! "Errrrrr-rooooo!" ;)

Each character is about 2- 2 1/2" in size (though some of the larger ones are closer to 3") and sells for typically around $7 or $8. Again, these are blind box figures (like Disney's Vinylmation) so you won't know who you get until you open them up. Speaking of opening these up, be sure to check out my YouTube unboxing video! And make sure to subscribe to my channel on YouTube (right here) as well. :)

You can find these in stores (at places like Hot Topic, Barnes and Noble and Target) or online on eBay or Amazon.com. Best of luck! Comment below and share your success stories. I'd love to hear who you've found.
