Last February, during the 2015 Toy Fair, Bandai revealed "Hatch 'n Heroes"- a new collection of small, plastic, egg shaped toys based on some of your favorite Disney & Pixar characters! Appropriately, they arrived in stores right around Easter. At the time, I figured they were just a brief seasonal item; but the line has actually continued with many new characters since then and has grown in popularity.
I've been a fan of this line since it began and have made sure to track down every Pixar release thus far. The first batch of [Pixar] characters released in the initial wave included Buzz and Woody from Toy Story and Nemo and Dory from Finding Nemo. Later in 2015, Cars characters were added to the lineup (see HERE and HERE). In the Fall of 2015, additional characters based on Toy Story (celebrating its 20th anniversary) hit shelves- a newly designed Buzz Lightyear, a Pizza Planet Alien, Bullseye and Rex.
Now with Finding Dory on the horizon, a few brand new Hatch 'n Heroes characters have surfaced: Destiny the whale shark, Bailey the beluga whale and Hank the octopus (septopus)! It should be noted that the original releases of Nemo and Dory have both been re-introduced in this line as well (now sporting new Finding Dory packaging).
If you haven't seen these before, I gotta say, these are fun and unique little toys. They start off in the shape of an egg, but as you fold out the various tucked away parts (very similar to Transformers), you begin to see the character take shape! A cute, simple concept. It's actually pretty impressive to see how many parts are able to be packed into such a little oval shape.
Lets take these out of the package for a closer look at what I mean...
Destiny
Bailey
Hank
My three year old nephew Noah LOVES these. We call them "eggies" ("eggie Buzz", "eggie Woody", "eggie Hank" etc.). He literally asks to play with all of them every time he comes over (he loves transforming them back and forth between the egg and the character); so they do seem to be very entertaining for that age range, at least for him. He was so excited when I got these new Finding Dory ones at my birthday party last week.
I also have to note- Though some of the Hatch 'n Heroes have pieces can pop off easily, it doesn't bother me as much as it might others (plus they're very easy to fix). Overall these are fun and do what they're meant to do.
You can find these in stores right now at most major toy retailers (Target, Walmart and Toys R Us to name a few). You can also find them Amazon.com using the links below.
Lastly, a HUGE thanks to Bandai for sending these over for review! More to come.
