Toy Story: TSC Woody

Throughout all three of the Toy Story films, the overall story always remained centered around everyone's favorite cowboy, Woody. Woody really is the heart and soul of the films and, I feel, one of the most beloved characters ever created.

In 1995, kids all around the world couldn't wait to get their hands on their very own Sheriff Woody toy. Since then, there have been many full size toy versions of Woody made, leading up to the latest and greatest of them all-This official "Toy Story Collection" Woody replica made from Pixar's digital data and complete with a certificate of authenticity. This Woody was released in 2009 and can still be found online and at Toys R Us stores as a re-release.

I still have my original 1995 Thinkway Woody (with my name "Danny" still visible on his boot-I'm sure I'm not the only one who did that back in the day) which can be seen here.

Beside that original one, this TSC version is the only other Woody I've ever gotten...but there have been lots of others over the years from the Disney Store, Disney Parks, Mattel and, of course, Thinkway. This is definitely the highest quality one out there right now.

Woody's original package is never seen on film, but based on Stinky Pete's, you can bet this is probably pretty close to what it would have looked like!

This Woody has two modes: Toy mode and interactive mode. When he's in interactive mode, he'll "respond" to you. Of course, he doesn't know exactly what your saying but for example, if you shout at him or talk loud, he'll tell you to calm down.

One of my favorite things about this replica is that it comes with a display stand so that you can, well, display him while standing! That's an awesome bonus as usually it would be impossible to stand him up on its own.

The movie accurate detail is amazing. The colors, paint, fabrics and other materials are spot on and the toy/replica is extremely well made. I love his "floppyness" as that was one of the things that bugged me when I was little about the original one- he was too thick, bulky and stiff. This one improves on that a ton by making him a bit thinner.

There are only a few nit-picky things that keep this Woody from being 100% movie accurate:
  • He doesn't include the classic phrase "Someone poisoned the water hole" and also doesn't include "I'd like to join your posse boys, but first I'm gonna sing a little song."
  • His pull string doesn't extend as nearly as far as it does in the film.
  • His eyelids are partially closed.
  • And for whatever reason, even though it's supposed to be THE Woody from the movie, they took creative liberties on the expression and gave him an opened rather than closed mouth. I've actually never seen a Woody made with a closed mouth which I find funny. It seems like a simple detail to get right and I'm still waiting for that version-maybe someday!
Besides those few nit-picks, this really is an outstanding toy. I do feel it is the best out there currently so if you're a Toy Story fan trying to figure out which Woody to get, I'd definitely recommend this one.

Thanks so much for dropping by the blog today and be sure to check back every day for updates from my Pixar collection! If you have any questions for me, be sure to comment!

Hi, I'm Miguel Angel (Córdoba, Spain) I just found your blog, love it!

To me it seems more faithful to the movie woody and jessie from Mattel. What you're not?
